Which country to visit in Europe?
Europe encompasses a whopping 44 countries, so having to choose can be overwhelming. Here’s a quick breakdown to pick your perfect destination:
- Eastern European Countries: Backpacker paradise! Countries like Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary offer stunning sights, delicious food, and friendly locals, all at a fraction of the Western European cost.
- Western European Countries: Home to iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Colosseum. Although pricier than Eastern Europe, Western European Countries are worth all the hype. Germany is the perfect middle ground, being cheaper than a lot of other Western European countries while also being incredibly diverse.
- Off the Beaten Path Countries: Explore lesser-known gems like Slovenia, Albania, or Bulgaria. You’ll find unique cultures, breathtaking scenery, and a chance to avoid crowds! The feeling of not having to share the most beautiful spots with hordes of tourists just makes these places even more beautiful.

Frequently asked questions on traveling to Europe
What is the best time to visit Europe?
Europe’s weather differentiates between countries. Genereally speaking, shoulder seasons (spring and fall) offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds. Winter has its charm with festive markets, especially in Germany, but can be cold and some attractions might have limited hours. Summer can become unbearably hot in countries in Southern Europe, but is the best time to visit Nordic countries.
Is Europe safe?
Europe is generally safe, but take precautions like anywhere else. Use common sense and avoid sketchy areas at night. Pickpocketing is a huge issue in touristy areas like Venice, so be extra mindful of your belongings.
How much money do I need?
Depending on your travel style you can get by on minimal amounts of money if you hitchhike and couchsurf. For average backpackers, daily budgets can range from 30 € in Eastern Europe to 50 € – 80 € in Western Europe. As always, there are many contributing factors such as transportation (which kind are you taking, how often are you moving inbetween places, etc.), accommodation (hostel dorms in big cities can be expensive), food (most hostels have kitchens, so cook your own food to save on meals), and activities to consider.
