London offers many amazing free views, but The Lookout is still a bit of a hidden gem in London. It stands proudly amongst competitors of free viewpoints in London like Horizon 22, Sky Garden and The Garden at 120, so make sure to add it to your London itinerary.

For me personally, The Lookout is undoubtedly the best free view in London. Tickets are easier to come by than Horizon 22 and Sky Garden and the views are insane! So here is all you need to know for your visit:

What is The Lookout?

The Lookout is a free viewing gallery located on the 50th floor of the 8 Bishopsgate skyscraper in the heart of London’s financial district. It only opened in 2023, so it is still a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to free views in London. An elevator takes you up to a breathtaking panoramic view that includes London’s iconic landmarks such as the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Shard. It is perhaps the best free alternative to the London Eye.

How to get to The Lookout

Bank, Liverpool Street and Monument are good stations if you’re coming by Underground. They are all a 5–10-minute walk away. From the Tower of London, it is a leisurely 20-minute walk to The Lookout.

Is The Lookout free? Do I need to make a reservation?

Yes, entry to The Lookout is absolutely free! However, as with many places, reservations are required. Go to the official 8 Bishopsgate website to reserve a spot. Tickets go online every other Monday. If they are not skipping any weeks, this should mean that every odd calendar week is when tickets are released. For us, the time slots weren’t super strict and you can stay as long as you want.

There will be a ticket check and bag scan at the entrance. There are only a few chairs and most of the area is empty. It is completely enclosed, which is great for London weather!
